YOU DON’T HAVE TO CAMP, BUT YOU WILL HAVE AN EXTRAORDINARY SINAI EXPERIENCE.
Erev Shavuot on Sunday evening May 17, 7:00 PM
and a morning on Monday, May 18, 10:00 45 AM
On Sunday evening:
Professor Baruch Halpern of the University of Georgia explores the development of the Bible through phases of polytheism, monotheism and the consequential irrelevance of God as a moral force. He audaciously questions the role of the prophets: were they revolutionaries or servants of the central government? When did Moses shift from being God’s cheerleader to the great lawgiver?
He draws on his background as a historian, archeologist, linguist and anthropologist to help us understand how the Torah we read reflects hundreds of years of evolution and cultural interaction.
Rabbi Elan Babchuck will help us unpack how these insights impact the way we experience and use our Jewishness today. We will study and observe Yiskor.
We’ve already been on Zoom together over one hundred times. This will be our culminating retreat. Plan to join us.
